Complete guide to using Tinker Tone in Microsoft Teams
Installation & Setup
Installing the Extension
- From the Tinker Tone Dashboard:
- Log in to your Tinker Tone account at tinkertone.app
- Navigate to Settings → Integrations
- Click "Install Teams Extension"
- You'll be redirected to Microsoft Teams to complete installation
- From Microsoft Teams App Store:
- Open Microsoft Teams
- Click "Apps" in the left sidebar
- Search for "Tinker Tone"
- Click "Add" to install the extension
- Pin the app to your sidebar for quick access
First-Time Setup
- After installation, click the Tinker Tone icon in Teams
- Sign in with your Tinker Tone account credentials
- Grant necessary permissions when prompted
- Select your default voice profile
- You're ready to start using Tinker Tone in Teams!
Note: You'll need an active Tinker Tone subscription to use the extension. Start your free trial at tinkertone.app/signup
Using the Extension
In Chat Messages
- Start typing your message in any Teams chat or channel
- Click the Tinker Tone icon below the message box (or use the keyboard shortcut)
- Your message will appear in the Tinker Tone panel
- Select your desired voice profile
- Choose a rewrite action:
- Polish: Refine your message while keeping your voice
- Shorter: Make your message more concise
- Clearer: Improve clarity and readability
- Softer: Make the tone more gentle
- Firmer: Make the tone more direct
- Professional: Adjust for formal communication
- Review the rewritten text
- Click "Use This" to insert the rewritten message
- Send your message
Message Extension
Tinker Tone also works as a message extension for quick access:
- Click the "..." icon below the message box
- Select "Tinker Tone" from the extensions menu
- Type or paste your message
- Choose your rewrite action
- The rewritten message will be inserted into your chat
Quick Actions
- Keyboard Shortcut: Press Ctrl+Shift+T (Windows) or Cmd+Shift+T (Mac) to open Tinker Tone
- Pin to Sidebar: Right-click the Tinker Tone icon and select "Pin" for quick access
- Recent Profiles: Your most-used voice profiles appear at the top for quick selection
Settings & Configuration
Extension Settings
Access extension settings by clicking the gear icon in the Tinker Tone panel:
- Default Profile: Set which voice profile to use by default
- Quick Actions: Customize which rewrite actions appear in the quick menu
- Notifications: Control when Tinker Tone sends notifications
- Privacy: Manage what data is sent to Tinker Tone
- Keyboard Shortcuts: Customize keyboard shortcuts
Team Settings
If you're an admin, you can configure Tinker Tone for your entire team:
- Shared voice profiles for consistent team communication
- Usage analytics and reporting
- Data management and security policies
- SSO integration for seamless authentication
Removing the Extension
Uninstalling Tinker Tone
If you need to remove the extension:
For Individual Users:
- Open Microsoft Teams
- Click "Apps" in the left sidebar
- Click "Built for your org" or search for "Tinker Tone"
- Right-click the Tinker Tone app
- Select "Uninstall"
- Confirm the removal
For Team Admins:
- Go to Microsoft Teams Admin Center
- Navigate to Teams apps → Manage apps
- Search for "Tinker Tone"
- Click on the app name
- Click "Remove" or "Block" to remove it for your organization
Note: Removing the extension does not cancel your Tinker Tone subscription. To cancel your subscription, see our billing documentation.
Troubleshooting
Common Issues
Extension not appearing:
- Restart Microsoft Teams
- Check that the extension is installed in your Apps list
- Verify your Tinker Tone subscription is active
- Contact your Teams admin if you can't install apps
Authentication errors:
- Sign out and sign back in to Tinker Tone
- Clear Teams cache (Settings → Privacy → Clear cache)
- Check your internet connection
- Verify your account has the necessary permissions
Rewrites not working:
- Ensure you have text in the message box
- Check that you've selected a voice profile
- Verify your subscription includes API access
- Try refreshing the extension
Slow performance:
- Check your internet connection speed
- Close unnecessary Teams tabs and apps
- Clear Teams cache
- Contact support if issues persist
