PowerPoint Add-in Guide

Complete guide to using Tinker Tone in Microsoft PowerPoint

Installation & Setup

Installing the Add-in

  1. From the Tinker Tone Dashboard:
    • Log in to your Tinker Tone account at tinkertone.app
    • Navigate to Settings → Integrations
    • Click "Install PowerPoint Add-in"
    • Follow the prompts to add Tinker Tone to your PowerPoint
  2. From Microsoft AppSource:
    • Open Microsoft PowerPoint (desktop or web)
    • Click "Insert" → "Get Add-ins" or "Office Add-ins"
    • Search for "Tinker Tone"
    • Click "Add" to install the add-in

Note: You'll need an active Tinker Tone subscription to use the add-in. Start your free trial at tinkertone.app/signup

Using the Add-in

Rewriting Slide Text

  1. Open a presentation in Microsoft PowerPoint
  2. Select the text in a text box or shape you want to rewrite
  3. Click the "Tinker Tone" button in the Home tab ribbon
  4. The Tinker Tone taskpane will open on the right
  5. Click "Get Selected Text" to load your selection
  6. Select your desired voice profile from the dropdown
  7. Click "Rewrite Selection" to generate the rewrite
  8. Review the rewritten text in the preview panel
  9. Click "Replace Selection" to apply, or "Discard" to cancel

Best Practices

  • Keep slides concise: Slide text should be brief—Tinker Tone can help condense verbose content into punchy bullet points
  • Rewrite speaker notes: Select text in the Notes pane to rewrite speaker notes for a more natural delivery
  • Use appropriate profiles: Choose a presentation-focused profile for slides and a conversational one for speaker notes
  • Review before accepting: Always review the rewritten text before replacing—you can discard and try again

Settings & Configuration

Add-in Settings

The PowerPoint add-in inherits settings from your Tinker Tone account:

  • Default Profile: Set your default voice profile in the Tinker Tone web dashboard under Settings → Preferences
  • Team Profiles: Shared team profiles appear automatically if your organization has them configured
  • Privacy: The add-in only sends selected text to Tinker Tone for processing—your full presentation is never uploaded

Removing the Add-in

Uninstalling Tinker Tone

If you need to remove the add-in:

PowerPoint Desktop (Windows/Mac):

  1. Open PowerPoint
  2. Click "Insert" → "Get Add-ins"
  3. Click "My add-ins" in the sidebar
  4. Find Tinker Tone in the list
  5. Click the three dots (...) and select "Remove"

PowerPoint for the Web:

  1. Open a presentation in PowerPoint online
  2. Click "Insert" → "Office Add-ins"
  3. Go to "My Add-ins"
  4. Find Tinker Tone and click "Remove"

Note: Removing the add-in does not cancel your Tinker Tone subscription. To cancel your subscription, see our billing documentation.

Troubleshooting

Common Issues

Add-in not appearing in ribbon:

  • Restart Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Check that the add-in is enabled under Insert → Get Add-ins → My Add-ins
  • Verify your Tinker Tone subscription is active

Selected text not loading:

  • Ensure you have text selected inside a text box or shape
  • Click directly into the text box before selecting
  • Close and reopen the taskpane

Authentication errors:

  • Sign out and sign back in to Tinker Tone
  • Clear your browser cache and cookies
  • Check your internet connection
