Getting Started with Tinker Tone

Your quick start guide to writing better with Tinker Tone

Step 1: Create Your Account

  1. Visit tinkertone.app/signup
  2. Enter your email address and create a password
  3. Verify your email address by clicking the link we send you
  4. Complete your profile with your name and preferences
  5. Start your 14-day free trial (no credit card required)

Step 2: Create Your First Personal Voice

Personal voices are the heart of Tinker Tone. They capture your unique communication style—tone, vocabulary, sentence structure, and more. Choose the method that works best for you:

Option A: Voice Wizard (Fastest)

  1. Go to Voices → Create New Voice
  2. Choose Voice Wizard
  3. Paste 3–5 writing samples (emails, messages, documents)
  4. AI analyzes your patterns and generates trait settings
  5. Review the preview, adjust if needed, and finalize

Option B: Voice Interview

  1. Choose Voice Interview instead
  2. Chat with AI about your communication preferences and style
  3. The AI builds your voice profile from the conversation
  4. Review and create your voice when the interview is complete

Option C: Manual Setup

Prefer full control? Create a voice manually by setting the five trait sliders (warmth, directness, formality, enthusiasm, empathy), vocabulary preferences, and voice notes.

Pro Tip: After creating a voice, test it in the Voice Playground before going live. You can also refine it later using the Refine with AI tab.

Step 4: Rewrite Your First Content

Using Tinker Tone

  1. Write your draft as you normally would
  2. Open Tinker Tone (click the icon or use Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+T)
  3. Select your voice profile from the dropdown
  4. Choose a rewrite action:
    • Rewrite: Full rewrite in your voice
    • Shorter: Make it more concise
    • Clearer: Improve clarity
    • Softer: Gentler tone
    • Firmer: More direct tone
  5. Review the rewritten version
  6. Click "Apply" to use it or "Try Again" for a different version
  7. Make any final edits and send!

Success! You've completed your first Tinker Tone rewrite. The more you use it, the better it gets at understanding your style.
